Hi, I’m Darleny Ayala Almanzar, a New York City based designer interested in graphic and product design. I’m currently finishing my degree in Graphic Communications at Baruch College.
When I design, I keep things simple and start with two questions: Who am I making this for? And what problem am I actually trying to fix? Those questions guide my entire process and keep my work focused on real people, not just aesthetics.
Right now, I’m working on a new app project that could be implemented across CUNY, while also getting ready to graduate. Basically, it’s a busy but exciting time.
Outside of design, I’m usually doing one of three things: learning languages, planning my next trip, or reading about design and how people interact with the world. I’m currently studying Mandarin and Korean, and I recently finished The Design of Everyday Things, which only confirmed my belief that good design should make life easier, not more confusing.
When I’m not designing, you can probably find me plotting my next trip to the Dominican Republic or noticing small everyday problems and thinking, someone should really design that better.
